Most corps teach beginners for free. You'll start with basics, practice on your own between rehearsals, and gradually work your way into the performance lineup. Some corps have you march with the color guard while you're still learning your instrument, so you're part of the group from day one. Progress depends on practice, but most people can play basic tunes within a few months.
